Day 5 Recap
As usual we started the day by doing the devotions for the patients waiting at the hospital. We’ve realized that we’re getting different people each day so have kept singing the same song (we’re much better at the Creole version of Everything is Good In My Father’s House now:) and the same devotional (as Steve’s Creole is a huge hit) but changing up who reads scripture and prays. Today Autumn read the scripture and Nick led the prayer. They did an awesome job especially since they had to juggle being in front of a crowd along with giving the translator time to translate. (They bumbled a lot more than the youth did.)
We then headed out to tour the Pure Water Factory. The organization builds concrete bio filters that are then distributed throughout Haiti. A huge component of their work is teaching school children and families how to use the filters and how to prevent contamination of water in the first place. This is important as they have found that the filters work well but many people put the bucket they used to pour water into the filter under the spigot to collect the clean water.
We then went downtown to do some sightseeing. We saw the remains of the Presidential Palace and the Port au Prince Cathedral and toured the National Museum, where we saw the actual anchor of Columbus’ ship Santa Maria!
In the late afternoon we returned to the hospital to spend some time with the kids and then returned to the guesthouse.
