LIfe Around Wall's Guest House
I think a couple named Wall started the guest house but it is ironic as the compound has high walls with barb wire on top. The main gate is opened by the security guard, who spends the rest of his time walking the grounds with a shotgun! On one hand this made us feel safe but on the other hand you wonder why that might be necessary! The bulk of our time here is spent in a patio area that is covered and walled on two sides but otherwise open to the outdoors. We eat all or meals there and hang out for devotions and games etc. Speaking of meals, we are being well cared for and have enjoyed familiar fare as well as a few yummy local touches like mangoes and rice with beans. There is an office/kitchen building and two with rooms. Outside the girls building is a small, simple swimming pool that no one has had the courage to try yet. The buildings are cinderblock so soak up the heat during the day. Our rooms are air-conditioned but the units mysteriously only work just before we got to bed so that the room is cooled down by the time we wake up. We were extremely surprised to have it though so really aren’t complaining, especially since the weather has been cooler than we expected. The guest house also has a generator so we have lights, fans, and internet access all the time.
There are two other mission groups staying here so it has been interesting meeting them and hearing about what they are doing. The one we have gotten to know the best started an orphanage a couple years ago and sends groups down quite routinely to support it.
