Day 2 Update

We were supposed to leave for church at 6:30 this morning but breakfast was served at 7:15 so we left around 7:45. We walked in about a half hour late and when we left two and a half hours later it still wasn't over! We had a translator with us so were able to keep up with some of what was going on. The sermon was on Hebrews 11 and we learned that if you have little faith God will do little things. If you have big faith he will do big things. They also had a big surprise celebration of their pastors birthday. Lots of presents and clapping and speeches honoring him. We learned that he was really good about noticing who wasn't in church and confronting them about that afterward. This was said in a positive light but sounded pretty funny through the interpreter.

The way our schedule worked today was going to be our only opportunity to do something fun so we had planned to go to the beach. Word on the street is that its safer to stay in town so we went to a "ritzy" hotel and went swimming in the the pool there. Our guides gave us an entertaining introduction to the voodoo culture, religion, and history. (I'll try to have Nick blog about it but the kids are all too busy playing Uno.) We did some souvenir shopping then came back to the guest house for supper, games, and devotions.
