The POWER of Vision at ICC’s Eye Hospital

On Wednesday June 15th, two of ICC Canada’s staff members drove down to Virgil Ontario (Niagara-on-the-Lake) to pick up the new generator that will be used to power ICC’s eye hospital in Haiti during periods of power outage. The town of Niagara-on-the-Lake sold this generator to ICC at a fraction of the retail cost. This was all made possible due to the generosity of Rotary International and the Naperville, Illinois Rotary club, who provided ICC with the money to purchase and ship the generator. Our sincerest thanks goes out to the entire Rotary International organization. This generator has barely been used and has very few hours on it, which makes it a real blessing for ICC at such a great price. Due to the unpredictability of the power grid in Haiti, this generator will allow our eye hospital to be fully functional during times of power grid outage. This will allow ICC eye hospital staff to continue to provide eye surgeries and treatment to patients at any time of the day, regardless of power from the grid. ICC Canada staff picked up the generator from the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and transported the generator to Home Hardware’s Penner Building Center where it was loaded and secured on a shipping container that is scheduled to arrive in Haiti in 6-8 weeks. ICC would like to thank to all of the staff at the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake that helped with the logistics and transportation of the generator. ICC would also like to thank the staff at Home Hardware’s Penner building Centre for allowing us to use their shipping dock and equipment to load the generator onto the shipping container. The entire ICC team and eye clinic patients are excited to see all of benefits that will result from having this generator providing back up power to our eye hospital.
