Statement of Faith

ICC USA STATEMENT OF FAITH
February 8, 2003

Preamble

Christian unity is founded on the theological understanding that, through the life of Jesus Christ, we can find God.  Revelation of this truth can be found through the study of Scripture, tradition, personal experience and reason.  The Spirit of God as revealed through Jesus Christ has become a sign of the intrinsic unity of all human life, creating a community beyond all human differences.

We see the need for a self-critical view of our own tradition and accurate appreciation of other traditions.

We labor together with the help of God toward the salvation, health, and peace of all people.  In respectful conversation and in practical cooperation, we confess our Christian faith and strive to display the manner in which the teaching of Christ can bring life and hope to the world.

All Christians are called to the ministry of servanthood in the world.  The forms of this ministry are diverse in locale, in interest, and in denominational accent, yet always universal in spirit and outreach.  We are called to minister in deeds and words that heal and free.  This ministry is both a gift and a task.  The gift is God’s grace and the task is service as we work together in mutual interdependence and are guided by the Spirit into the truth that frees and the love that reconciles.

In this light, we present the following as our Statement of Faith:

Statement of Faith

We believe in God as the Universal Presence undergirding all of life as revealed through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

We believe in Jesus Christ through whom we are able to courageously break out of our barriers and expand our humanity to a higher level of love and servanthood.

We believe in the Holy Spirit which connects all people and strengthens us through the gift of new life and being.

We believe in the revelation of God through the study of the Holy Scriptures.

We choose to walk as believers in love and service to one another.
