Transitional Housing Completed at GCH

Since the earthquake, new patients have not been admitted to inpatient care at Grace Children’s Hospital, although other programs have continued. This week marks the completion of the first transitional structure at Grace. The transitional inpatient ward was completed, including decorations, and new patients will now be admitted.
Patients are admitted through two processes: referrals from other hospitals, as well as from the outpatient clinic. Seven patients remained at the hospital after the earthquake, living in tents in the hospital courtyard and being cared for by dedicated hospital staff. These patients had been orphaned either before or during the earthquake, and stayed at the hospital to complete their treatment, and have been released to the care of licensed orphanages in Haiti.
The facility is considered transitional, and will only be used until the hospital is permanently rebuilt; the buildings can be repurposed or dismantled in the event that they are no longer needed.
Other construction and demolition continues at the hospital, and you can see more pictures of the progress at this link.
