International Child Care - United States
Health and wholeness for children and families in empowered communities

Cholera Statement

With the news of a cholera outbreak in Haiti, the thoughts and prayers of International Child Care’s staff, board, and supporters have immediately turned to our friends in Haiti. At this time, the cholera outbreak has not affected ICC Haiti staff or patients. We maintain strict health protocols for the health and safety of our staff and patients, and will continue to follow public health safety standards.

The immediate physical effects of cholera are devastating and can be deadly, as many news reports have explained. ICC has had the unique privilege of distributing bio-sand water filters throughout Haiti over the past year, which is helping to keep Haitians supplied with clean, safe drinking water and reducing the spread of disease. Because of your support, children and families are safe from the disease. Our Child to Child and community health education programs include re-hydration education for those suffering from the effects of intestinal disease like cholera. The best treatment for cholera is re-hydration, which can be reached by treating patients with clean water mixed with sugar and salt. Our work in Haiti has provided communities with these items, as well as health education and hygiene information that reduce risk for affected communities. Thanks for your help.

We ask for your continued prayers and support as we continue to work towards health and wholeness for the people of Haiti in these difficult times.  We will keep our website updated with any information about cholera affecting ICC, and please feel free to contact us with any questions.
